Scott Pilgrim is een 23-jarige nonchalante goedzak uit Toronto, waar hij samenwoont met zijn beste vriend, de homo Wallace Wells. Scott speelt basgitaar in zijn eigen band 'Sex Bob-Omb' en date tot ieders afkeuring met de pas 17-jarige Chinese Knives Chau. Wanneer echter het meisje Ramona V. Flowers nieuw in de stad arriveert, is Scott tot over zijn oren verliefd.
